A baby chick in a child’s hand?
The first ray of sunlight?
A shooting star?
Your days were not many,
A passing formation in the clouds,
A glint of sunlight on a vast ocean,
A sweet breeze on a summer afternoon.
Your parents’ hope and joy, you were worth the risk.
A decision made with courage, laughter and tears.
Your mom sang to you as you moved inside her.
Your dad felt the earth shake.
How do we measure the beat of a heart?
An instant? An eternity?
You are somewhere else, now, you and your mom,
Torn from your dad, he will never be the same.
Our hearts are in pain, we look to the sky,
We remember, we hug.
